Aug 3 - Spring Branch-Bulverde Lions ‘Day of Services’ to help get the kiddos in the community get ready for school. Need: 16Volunteers for parking detail, vendor check in and set up, and later in the day, park clean up and vendor assistance to tear down. Two shifts 8:00 -11:00am and 1:30 - 3:30pm. A Boys State Orientation was held at the American Legion Post 179 in New Braunfels on May 13, 2019. Four John Paul II High School Juniors were selected by the Garden Ridge Lions Club to attend the 2019 session of Boys State. The dedication of Lion Harvey B. Bell Pocket Park in Garden Ridge. The project was guided by Kay Bower, Melissa Lantzey, Kathy & Shelby Trial from the Parks Committee. Mayor/Lion Larry Thompson presided over the dedication, Lion Larry Steele represented the Garden Ridge Lions Club. Nancy Bell cut the ribbon to open the park.
Friday, Sept., 6 Casino Night & Silent Auction to benefit the Garden Ridge Lions Club Charities. Sponsored by Doris Dollar-Kuretich, Financial Advisor. Doors open at 600pm with the fun lasting until 10:00pm. Location: Garden Ridge Community Center.
The Garden Ridge lions club hosted a diabetic event called dinner tonight. The Comal County Extension showed how to prepare diabetic friendly meals plus a demonstration on the amount of sugar in drinks. Diabetic information was distributed. A $500 donation was made to Comal programs counsel.
Night Out in Garden Ridge Tuesday, October 1 at the Garden Ridge Community Center from 6 to 8 pm. I have reserved a table for our club at this event and as in the past we will be popping popcorn, handing out goodies to the kids and handing out our brochures and doing a little recruiting. Fish Fry, BBQ & Auction entertainment this year includes ' Chords Of Grace'. The Voeller children have been playing music together since they were very young. With direction from their parents, Shannon (17), Emily (14), Daniel (12) and Molly (10), decided to form a bluegrass band in the fall of 2017. Invite your friends and neighbors for an afternoon/evening of good food and entertainment while supporting your Garden Ridge Lions.
The Garden Ridge Lions hosted a Camp-out Dinner for kids & staff at the Texas Lions Camp (TLC) Physical Disabilities summer camp in Kerrville on June 6.

July 4th Celebration in the Park. A hearty thanks to the below lions who helped make this July 4th celebration a popcorn and barrel car success. Our new location was a bit of a challenge at first but once we got going it was a hit. Many complements on the barrel cars so you all can take pride in putting them into operation. We had over 100 children take rides (even some adults too) and we popped eleven batches of popcorn. A special thanks to the Marks twins for slaving over a hot popper. THANK YOU all. Dick Holloway
Every Thanksgiving Season, the Garden Ridge Lions provide Thanksgiving meals to less fortunate families in the Garden Ridge and surrounding area. ​ ​Thursday, Nov 21, 2:00 PM - Volunteers meet at HEB (in the rear of the store next to the loading dock) to pick up groceries and take to the GR Community Center. A separate group of volunteers meet at the GR Community Center at 2:00 PM to set-up tables, place and number boxes on the tables, unload groceries, store perishables and pack non-perishables. ​​​Saturday, Nov 23, 8:00 AM - Volunteers needed for packing of perishables and then at 9:00 AM, distribution of food baskets from the Garden Ridge Community Center.

National Night Out in Garden Ridge Tuesday, October 1 at the Garden Ridge Community Center from 6 to 8 pm. was well attended. A big thanks goes out to all you helped man the booth and popper during the event. We had several persons interested in joining the Lions as we handed out our brochures and doing a little recruiting. Children's Christmas Hygiene Stockings. Victoria Speakmon is coordinating the effort to provide hygiene packages along with our Lions Christmas meals/gifts again this year. The Garden Ridge Lions presented a check for $500 to Major Roman Leal of the New Braunfels Salvation Army on September 24.
The Garden Ridge Lions would like to thank everyone who volunteered to help and those that came out in support of our annual Fish Fry, BBQ & Auction fund-raiser October 5th. All proceeds went to the Garden Ridge Lions Charities which supports Garden Ridge and the surrounding areas. This year’s event will support local community & youth service organizations, sight/hearing services and many other charities. A special thanks to ‘Chords Of Grace’ who provided the entertainment.
Garden Ridge Lions, Mark Meyers and Dick Holloway, participated in the Fall Festival at the Garden Ridge Elementary School Saturday, Nov. 2. This was a fund raiser for the school with numerous rides for the kids, food trucks, silent auction, raffles and games. The lions staffed the popcorn machine handing out popcorn and Lion Club brochures. Several people provided their contact information that where interested in the Garden Ridge Lions Club.
Lions Club Picnic: The promises of camaraderie, good food and fun where fulfilled Saturday, November 9th, 2019 at the 13th annual Lions Club Picnic at Paul Davis Park from 11am to 3pm. Thanks to Steve Gallets and a host of helpers for the planning and execution of the event.
Bat Cave Road Clean-up:Thanks for all the volunteers that came out Saturday, November 9th for the Bat Cave Road Clean-up. After meeting at Paul Davis Park at 8:00 am., road route assignments were made and the groups were dismissed for road clean-up. Everyone was properly dressed for the event with light colored clothes, sturdy shoes, safety vests and gloves. Thanks to Greg Loser for coordinating the event.
The Garden Ridge Lions Valentines Dinner will be held on Wed, Feb 12th at the Garden Ridge Community Center. Socializing starts at 6:30pm and the meal served at 7:00pm. Each Lion may bring a guest. We need a count as to how many people will be attending to know how many meals to prepare. The meal includes an individual shrimp cocktail, a spring salad, a sautéed chicken breast with mushroom and artichoke sauce served with flavored rice, steamed vegetables, rolls and butter, coffee and tea. Thanks to all who are volunteering for 2019 - Hearing Testing. Conducted by the Garden Ridge Lions, hearing testing was completed November 13th. During this time period, 31 NBISD, CISD and Perocial schools were visited with over 6000 students tested for hearing deficiencies. To all who volunteered for this activity, I extend my most sincere thanks for your time and support in working with our local school children primarily in Pre K, K, first, third, fifth and seventh grades. Grace Preparatory Academy Leo Club filled 850 Christmas bags filled with toys, hygiene items and school supplies to be distributed in Mexico as a Global Project. One act of service, one encouraging word, one gift of generosity is often all it takes to bring hope where it’s needed most. Grace Preparatory Academy Leo Club leader Lion Tara Brown and Lion Amanda Hagy worked with the Leo group who spent over 100 hours to complete this global project.
The Garden Ridge Lions Christmas Dinner was held at the Olympia Hills Golf and Event Center in Universal City on Dec 11th. The sit down dinner with Christmas music by the Canyon High chorale group was enjoyed by all. After the Canyon High Chorale group preformed, a $300 check was presented to them by Lion President Bill Swint and Lion Dick Vogt. A special THANKS goes out to Dick Vogt who was the organizer of the event.
Lions Camp clean-up in Kerrville. Ken Folsom at the Lions Camp advising that by action of the board of directors the April 4th and May 2nd work day at the camp has been cancelled. Each workday commences at 7:30am with a breakfast provided by a Lions. Work projects commence at 8:00am and last until noon at which time lunch is served. If necessary work continues after lunch, but in most cases our work projects have been completed by lunch and we are released to return home. We will car pool to the camp and back. The Garden Ridge Lions delivered Christmas meals, children’s gifts and hygiene kits to 40 less fortunate families in the Garden Ridge and surrounding areas on December 14th. With the focus on families with children, and they should never go without during a holiday period, Christmas meals, gifts for the children and hygiene kits were provided making the Christmas season a little brighter for those in need.Thanks to Victoria Speakmon again this year for coordinating the effort to provide hygiene packages and a THANKS to all volunteers who helped wrap the gifts, collected the food from HEB, put the food into the boxes, sorted the food, hygiene kits, children's gifts and then delivered to the families.
Grace Preparatory Academy (GPA) Leo’s Club participated in the ‘Homes For Our Troops’ Community Kick-Off event for the home building for Army SPC James Thorne in New Braunfels Jan 11th at Holy Family Catholic Church.

The Garden Ridge Lions would like to encourage everyone to follow the health and safety guidelines of our local authorities. During this time, the Lions are staying focused on what we do … We Serve. As we have our modified our club meetings, we have also adjusted our community service projects as needed including working with schools to award scholarships. We are Lions. We’re strong, committed and dedicated. Yes, a lot of changes have occurred, but there’s one thing that hasn’t changed… service to others.
Blood Drive - The City of Garden Ridge and the Garden Ridge Lions are co-sponsoring a blood drive June 13th from 9:00am -3:00pm at the Garden Ridge Community and Event Center, 9400 Municipal Parkway, Garden Ridge, TX. Because of the impact of coronavirus, there is a threat of the community blood supply collapsing, creating an additional life-threatening medical crisis. Safety protocols will be in place; such as, wearing masks, social distancing, and more. Due to these protocols, it's required that you schedule an appointment to donate. ​Grace Preparatory Academy (GPA) Leo’s Club held a successful bake sale at the Jan 25th Lions Mid-Winter Conference at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Taylor, TX. They also collected fun and crazy socks for cancer patients as part of the Triumphant Warrior program. GPA Leo's Jaclyn Brown and Jon Hagy pose with fellow District Leos. Families of Garden Ridge Road Clean-up: THANKS to all Lion volunteers who helped with the “Families of Garden Ridge” road cleanup on FM 2252 from 3009 to Marbach Jan 25th. This was a good civic opportunity and good exposure for the club.
The Garden Ridge Lions held the Valentines Dinner on Wed, Feb 12th at the Garden Ridge Community Center. Everyone enjoyed the evening with good food and socialization throughout the evening. Thanks to Dick Vogt and his band of volunteers.
